I’ve had these cassettes for a while but i’ve only recently decided to look into their contents and origin.
After a little bit of research it seems that they are original Apple / ITT cassettes for the ITT 2020 manufactured by ITT Consumer Products in the UK (hence the spelling of ‘colour’ on the cassette) with co-operation from Apple, making it the first licensed Apple clone.
I proceeded to backup everything by making digital .wav files of each cassette. I have been able to retrieve the following:
ITT colour demo
ITT dragon maze
ITT Integer basic
ITT 2020 high res demo
On my standard Apple II I haven’t been able to get INTEGER BASIC running yet, and HIRES DEMO crashes at line 35 with ‘ILLEGAL QUANTITY ERROR’. The ITT 2020 has a 360-pixel wide hires screen, rather than the standard 280.
The images below were captured using the Virtual ][ emulator after converting the .wav file to .aif (including some sound manipulation using Audacity) and loading them via the virtual cassette recorder.
